Enjoy the podcast and Happy Holidays

Make our classy holiday cocktails in your very own home:

Coquito (“little coconut”)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 12 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 inch-long piece of fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1 15-ounce can of Coco Lopez
  • 1 12-ounce can of Carnation Evaporated Milk
  • 1.5  cup light rum (I use Cruzan)
  • Powdered cinnamon

Directions

  • Place water, cloves, cinnamon sticks and ginger in a small saucepan to create an infusion. Cook at medium heat until the mixture begins to boil.
  • After cooking, cover and let the infusion cool for 15 minutes. Remove cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
  • Place the Coco Lopez, evaporated milk, rum and infusion in a blender. Cover and blend for 30 seconds.
  • Pour contents into a glass bottle with a cinnamon stick and refrigerate until cold.
  • Serve in 2-5 ounce glasses. Sprinkle top with powdered cinnamon.
  • Like an egg nog, the flavor improves with time. It’s quite good freshly made, but a 14-28 day aging in the refrigerator does wonders for it.
Christmas Island Sparkling Punch
1 bottle brut champagne
2 cups peppermint tea (brew 4 bags in two cups boiling water, chill before adding to punch)
30 oz pineapple juice
1.5 cups spiced rum (Sunshine’s Very Spicy Rum, or Cruzan 9)
4 oz Hibiscus syrup or REAL pomegranate grenadine
Lemon juice to adjust sweet/tartness to your liking
Add everything to a chilled punch bowl and use a large ice ring to keep it cold.
Spiced Caramel Apple
3/4 oz Caramel Apple Vodka
3/4 oz Spiced Rum
1.5 oz Apple Cider
Shake well with crushed ice and serve in a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with apple wedges that have been soaked in spiced rum overnight.

What a joy it is to have Pumpkin in the lounge with us this week.  Her discourse on encouraging women to wear to BBQ scented body oil is nothing short of amazing.  Her belief is that women will bag that next husband by smelling like cured meats.  Hmmmmmm?  She also ponders her boyfriends wish to have her dress up like a slutty super hero for Halloween.  Sunshine totally supports this costume idea.  And, let it be said.  Pumpkin is pretty good at sluttin herself up when she wants to.  We do answer some listener mail, including Halloween Punch recipes and fun things to do in your tiki bar for the most wicked holiday of the year.  We give advice on last minute Halloween costumes, throwing an impromptu party and ask our listeners their thoughts on the current tiki/pop revivial.  Pumpkin shares thoughts on turning Better Homes and Gardensclassic recipes into vegan masterpieces.  Sunshine goes on and on about bringing jello back to the center of American dessert table.

After many many emails from our listeners we knew it was time to do a show on Vegan foods/party ideas.  Now and then Pumpkin brings us a little tid bit about the vegan lifestyle but we thought doing a completely vegan BBQ for Independance Day would be fun for all.  Sunshine naturally gives some vegan cocktail ideas (not to hard since almost all cocktails are vegan).  If you are new to the vegan lifestyle you will need a few cook books and a lifeline.  We recommend the following books: Garden of Vegan, Vegan a Go-Go!: A cookbook and survival manual for vegans on the go, Go Dairy Free: The guide and cookbook for milk allergies, lactose intolerance and casein-free living, Students Vegetarian Cookbook. Revised: Quick, Easy, Cheap and Tasty Vegetarian Recipes. For that vegan cocktail you don’t have to look far, but here are Sunshines favorite Cocktail Bibles.  For those of you who just tune in for the shenanigans you won’t be disappointed. Pumpkin gets a little smashed and we have a great time in the lounge as usual.

Pumpkin is seriously obsessed with her vegan cookbook, but would you believe theres a chapter on throwing a vegan tiki extravaganza?  Yes, there is.  And would you believe just how many people engage in “armpit fetish.”  Far to many not to turn your stomach, but to each his/her own.  Freaks!  Odd subject matter is of the norm here in the lounge, and so are cocktails.  This week we try some Voodoo Tiki Tequila, a smooth spirit with some special idol charm.  Pumpkin gets a little loud after her tequila and Sunshine complains about the digital afterlife that more and more of us are “living.”?  Plenty of reasons to put our little podcast in your brain.  Cocktails, chit chat and shenanigans.

Happy New Year Tiki Friends!!!  Both Sunshine and Pumpkin are excited to be starting another year of podcasting here in the Zen Tiki Lounge.  We certainly don’t waste anytime, the cocktails are flowing, conversation running and shenanigans continues.  Our cocktail is straight from Sunshines fridge, specifically the leftover ingredients from all the holiday parties.  A little passion fruit juice, some pineapple, Appleton rum, Ten Cane rum…throw in some bitters and a dash of lemon.  Impressive for leftovers.  I call it “California Passion Cocktail.”  Part of the inspiration comes from our weather.  While many of our listeners are burried in snow, we are enjoying some fairly decent temps here in Sunny So Cal.  Pumpkin delves into the naughty subjects as always, vegan condoms in a cookbook?  Yep.  Penis enlargement?  You bet.  Lets not forget the roll play we do to show you just how bad the customer service is at Washington Mutual.  WAMU has closed Sunshines account, can’t figure out how or why and doesn’t really seem to care about helping to reopen it.  Thats wonderful.  Enough reason to drink.
