Sunshine and Pumpkin, the original two hosts of ZTL are in the lounge sipping Jungle Juice and conversing.  Back by popular demand we do the mail segment from Pumpkins vagina.  Although the vage is a bit moist and musty we jump in and suffer through for our listeners.  Pumpkin has added a swamp cooler and air freshener since our last visit into her “fish whistle.”  Aside from the obvious innuendo of doing mail from a bodily organ, the show is filled with lots more good stuff.  In between segments we have great music from The Ding Dong Devils, whose new album “Hello Little Olives” is available for download on both iTunes and emusic.com.  If you were looking from great kitschy tunes to play at your next tiki shindig, you want The Ding Dong Devils.  On this episode we play some drunk dials from listeners including Mr. Martini of the Behind the Bar Show podcast, Crazy Drunk Girl and Drunk Dude in a Car.  And if you want to leave us a comment, question or drunk dial, just call 619-777-TIKI.  We will most likely play your voicemail on the show.  Next, Sunshine reviews a couple of smart phone apps with a rum theme.  The Sailor Jerry Tattoo app is fun and the Don Q rum app helps you find bars in your area with the vibe you are in the mood for.  Also on this episode: chat about mermaids, the bloop, Halloween costumes, bar tips and…….TABOO.  Taboo is the only tiki even in October this year.  Rooms are sold out but a small number of pendants/weekend passes are still available.  Click the link and join ZTL at TABOO, as it is the only way to attend our fabulous room party.  Cheers and Mahalo!

What a joy it is to have Pumpkin in the lounge with us this week.  Her discourse on encouraging women to wear to BBQ scented body oil is nothing short of amazing.  Her belief is that women will bag that next husband by smelling like cured meats.  Hmmmmmm?  She also ponders her boyfriends wish to have her dress up like a slutty super hero for Halloween.  Sunshine totally supports this costume idea.  And, let it be said.  Pumpkin is pretty good at sluttin herself up when she wants to.  We do answer some listener mail, including Halloween Punch recipes and fun things to do in your tiki bar for the most wicked holiday of the year.  We give advice on last minute Halloween costumes, throwing an impromptu party and ask our listeners their thoughts on the current tiki/pop revivial.  Pumpkin shares thoughts on turning Better Homes and Gardensclassic recipes into vegan masterpieces.  Sunshine goes on and on about bringing jello back to the center of American dessert table.

Sunshine continues to be inspired (though inspire may be the wrong word) jello concoctions of the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s.  As the US economy powered through time after WWII, desserts like jello were in every home.  We try another version that attempts to combine lime jello, green olives and cherries.  After surviving this weeks appetizer, Starshine gives her suggestions for additional Ben and Jerry’s flavors.  Including Cincinnati Bow Tie, Dirty Sanchez, Gemini Chocolate Sofa and Schlong and Nuts.  We also discuss the hype around Nibiru, a supposed dark matter planet that is hurtling towards Earth and will cause the end of the world approx October 14-16. Luckily the hosts the Zen Tiki Lounge will be enjoying the end times in Las Vegas.  Where else would you want to spend your last moments than a glitzy casino with ample smokes, drinks and shenanigans?

SQ SunshinePumpkinEither this show was recorded before Halloween, or you hosts have had one too many cocktails.  Regardless, it’s a good time in the Zen Tiki Lounge.  Kalani and Sunshine are sharing stories of Halloween past.  What are you afraid of?  A little eerie music, some fog, a touch of candle light.  Thats all included.  Plenty of booze tossed in for good measure.  There isn’t much else to say about this weeks show.  Enjoy.

The entire country has been caught up in one of the most debated political races in a few decades.  We don’t know about you but it all got to be a little much for us.  So in typical fashion, Sunshine and Pumpkin raise their tiki drinks high and drink up.  Some things are better in the past, yet still give us hope for the future.  Without spilling our presidential opinions to much we do a little commentary and toss in plenty of tropical goodness.  Our cocktail for example is a deliciously fruity rum variation of the virgin Bora Bora punch.  So much better with the booze and as you will hear, Pumpkin gets a little saucy after #2.  Sunshine shares some highlights from this years Halloween party.  Including some of the fun tid bits that party guests left behind.  And, it may sound a bit early but we give a good holiday shopping tip or two for your tiki friends.  Good ol Trader Vic has a gift package waiting for you.  Lastly we share what has become Sunshines favorite new podcast.  The quiet village podcast is full of great exotica and some good DJ work to go with it.  Check it out NOW!

Drink of the week

Bora Bora Cocktail

3oz pineapple juice

1oz passion fruit juice (not syrup)

1.5oz gold rum (Mt. Gay is good in this one)

.5oz lemon juice

.5oz grenadine

Shake it all up real nice with some ice.  Pour into your favorite tiki mug filled with crushed ice.  Garnish with a pineapple wedge, cherry and pick or sword.  Lime on top is also a nice treat.

Sometimes you just can’t pull it together.  Like this weeks show prepartion, just didn’t happen.  Sunshine and Pumpkin just walked in and babbled, something we haven’t done in a good while.  It was nice to know that some of you had asked us to be more off the cuff more often.  Well, here ya go!  Our contemporaneous topics included tiki floral arranging, sort of.  Also, Justin Dick was just an average citizen until someone vandalized his vote yes on prop 8 sign.  Now he is sad.  To get things a little less heavy, Sunshine invents a new phrase “on the down swallow.”  Find out how it relates to Sarah Palin and the McCain Mob.  We almost forgot to mention that Pumpkin has started giving her dog a special dog beer.  Proof that our society has crumbled,,,,,,giving your dog his own beer?  Its all over.  So lets drink and celebrate the Halloween season.

Sunshine was observing that Suze Orman may be the queen of the cougars.  Cougars are getting a lot of hype lately and Suze the money guru really knows how to get what she wants.  Pumpkin changes the subject to Jesus and the commercialization of the Christian religion.  What does Jesus have to do with Halloween?  Nothing!  However John McCain and Sarah Palin will do everything they can to ban Halloween altogether.  But thats not all.  Sunshine shares some of his favorite zen sleep music.  Have trouble sleeping like Sunshine?  Then go get yourself some of these selections for meditation and sleep  And much much more.

This cocktail or shooter is just in time for Halloween and makes a good addition to any holiday party all the way till Thanksgiving.  Put all ingredients in a shaker with crushed ice and shake for at least 30 seconds.  You want some good froth and dilution of the ice.  Pour into a chilled martini glass and serve very cold.
