Aloha and welcome to the Zen Tiki Lounge, the tiki bar that lives in your head.  Sunshine, Starshine and Kalani sit at the bar for the first time this new year.  Sunshine is very happy to now own a turntable and has converted some exotica albums for the podcast.  This week we listen to Arthur Lyman’s Hawaiian Sunset and Martin Denny’s Quiet Village.  Can’t go wrong with those two classic examples of great vintage exotica.  Our cocktail this week was inspired by all the fresh citrus we have ripening in Southern California.  Fresh grapefruit, limes and oranges combine with El Dorado 15, Plantation 5 and 10 Cane rums, a little homemade falernum and some brown sugar syrup.  A zesty drink packed with vitamin C and exotic spices.  Speaking of vinyl albums, Kalani brought in some more classics like Carmen Miranda, Hilo Hattie and Webley Edwards.  Plenty to keep us relaxing on our bar stools during the next few podcasts.  And if you ever wanted to hear the ladies sing you will love this episode.  A stiff drink removes just enough inhibition for a spontaneous duet of Kokomo.  Fun!

We are proud to say that our good friend Everett Peacock has just published another book!  Escape from Hanalei will entice you to visit the islands and experience that relaxation and paradise that you have dreamed up.  Listen to this episode to find out how you can get a copy in either paperback or kindle versions.  That is if you want to participate in our little game.  You can also get the book right now, click here!

What a discomboobulated show we have for you this week.  Sunshine, Pumpkin and Starshine are all here to prove that too many hosts only leads to YELLING!  We introduce a new segment to the show, Tiki News.  A quick look at some of the tiki events and funny stories from around the globe and your own backyard.  Pumpkin brings us a long forgotten segment, Crazy Christian Cousin.  Pumpkins cousin is sending those nutty text messages about Jesus again.  Starshine is perturbed with the A-hole senator that called Obama a liar at his Healthcare address.  And, for good reason.  Representative Joe “Im a duche” Wilson calls the President a liar regarding healthcare.  Maybe Joe Wilson forgot that ALL of his campaign funding came from health care interests.  Wow, we all need a drink.  To keep it tiki Sunshine gives some shouts to fellow podcasters who keep us entertained with exotica and and the best sounds in lounge and space age pop.  Check out Cocktail Nation with Koop Kooper and The Quiet Village with Digitiki.  Great listening, interviews and advice on where to find that not so easy to procure exotica.  Now thats a show.  Listen, drink, enjoy!

Trader Vic’s, at the world-famous Beverly Hilton hotel in glamorous Beverly Hills, CA, in trendy 90210. Before we hit the road, we discuss the burning topics of nameless fruit drink, how to get out of jury duty, with assistance from our listeners, and Sunshine introduces his “scam” to raise money for the Lounge and pay for new toys. Finally we hit the road, spend half the day on the Los Angeles freeways, and arrive at Trader Vic’s. We enjoy a well-deserved cocktail stiff enough to knock you on your ass, and suck up the atmosphere while dining on some average food. Check out the pictures on our Flickr Photostream so you too can feel like you were there with us at Trader Vic’s.
Please forgive the audio, we are road-show virgins.
