SQ Dancer on GreenWe continue to search for the perfect form of entertainment.  This dimly lit tiki bar isn’t just for drinking.  As you will hear in this weeks episode, podcasting has finally become mainstream.  It just doesn’t get any better than this.  Sunshine, Starshine and Kalani are happily hosting bar and sipping a married cocktail.  By married we mean the combining of two drinks to create a hybrid with even more complexity.  The Floridian Sinkhole is born!  With both pineapple and coconut flavors the drink harkens to a lady we call Pina Colada.  But much better!  A little heat and some spice to liven up a familiar taste.  Get the recipe at the bottom of this post.  It has more ingredients than a defense department appropriations bill.

By listener request the listener mail is recorded in Pumpkin’s vagina.  This was no easy task since she wasn’t in the mood.  A few drinks later and Lil John gets his wish.  Discussion includes where to get your tiki online and ways to spot clean a rug.  Exciting!

Once back at the bar the conversation is even less professional.  Kalani blasts the author of a cheeseball book about finding the perfect man by transforming yourself.  Kalani really hated this book.  She actually couldn’t put it down she was so angry.  Starshine changes the subject to share memories from Tiki Caliente 5.  Just two weeks ago we were all enjoying the sun and fun of Palm Springs.  And, for the first time we organized and judged the room crawl at the event.

Floridian Sinkhole (makes 2 drinks)

2 oz Pineapple Juice

.5 oz Lemon Juice

.75 oz Lime Juice

1 oz Coconut Water

1 oz Coconut Milk (Lite)

2 drops Orange Blossom Water

.5 oz Pineapple Chipotle syrup (Monin or make your own)

.5 oz Habenero Lime syrup (Monin or make your own)

1 oz Pineapple Liquor (Malibu or other)

.5 oz Rum Demerara (as a float)

.5 oz Rum Martinique

1.5 oz Coconut Rum

.75 oz 10 Cane Rum

Combine everything but Demerara in a blender with 2 cups crushed ice or 3 cups cubed ice.  Pulse 3-4 times and pour into hurricane glass.  Top with Demerara rum.  Garnish with pineapple wedge, lime wheel and a sprinkle of sweetened toasted coconut flakes.

Hear some great tunes from Tikiyaki Orchestra, Les Baxter, Kahuna Kawentzmann and Martin Denny.

SQ LG Pasties-1Every now and then we do an all music show. Sunshine is in the lounge solo while the ladies attend various engagements. What better reason for a podcast filled with music that sets the mood for a cocktail party inside Jeannie’s bottle. Just a week after recording this show we will be heading to Mojave Oasis for a tiki camping weekend. And, our tent will be decked out in Jeannie style. So mix yourself a cocktail and relax while the music does all the work this week. Cheers and Mahalo

SQ Peep BurnOk, so this is a loud podcast.  Taking the show on the road again, to the home tiki escape of Rory Snyder.  While sipping cocktails made with Deadhead Rum Sunshine, Starshine and Kalani enjoy a swank cocktail party @ Calsita.  Rory is busy organizing and planning Tiki Caliente 5 and took some time to chat and drink with us on the podcast.  With just 45 days till the event you will want to listen to this episode of ZTL to get all the details you could possibly want.  Rory also answers a few listener questions and some less appropriate questions posed by Sunshine.  For all the fun, listen to the show.  We end the program with two Arthur Lyman tunes chosen by Sunshine and Rory.  Cheers and Mahalo

ZTL Sq RichardOn this weeks podcast you will want to overlook the slight audio quality issues and stick to it.

Our first segment brings us a cocktail in the works.  Using the aged Deadhead Rum, Sunshine is working on a tasty libation to be served at the upcoming tiki events Mojave Oasis and Tiki Caliente 5.  Cocktails never come out right the first time.  Or fifth or tenth.  A good drink is often played with over time and individual bartenders like to make their own adjustments to drinks as well.  Sunshine plays with his concoctions a few times before unleashing them on the ladies who can give feedback on overall servability since they have different tastes.  And, when a cocktail pleases all three ladies we know we have something special.  So, our goal is to take our I Dream of Jeannie inspired cocktail to a place that will make anyone feel like they have a mystical bottle trapped minion.  Stay tuned or join us at either of the above events to taste this one for yourself.

Did we mention that Big Orange Richard was back in town?  For a limited time our friends at PopTiki.com are making another small batch of our official tiki mug.  $45 plus shipping gets you our big 24oz mod orange moai.  Follow this link for more pics.  Want yours now?!!  Send a request to mail@zentikilounge.com and let us know you want a mug before they are sold out.

Stewardess vs. Flight Attendant?  Bartender vs. Mixologist?  We discuss.

What would you do if you faced several major operations at one time?  How would you pay for it?  We don’t know either.  And thats why we want to get the word out and help Richard Cheese who we have played on the show before.  He needs a corneal transplant and we can all help by making a donation of any size using this link: Help Richard Cheese get a new Eye.  When you donate you can choose some merch items or choose to let all of your donation go towards the cause.

Catch some great music from The Revomatics and Kitty Chow and Fisherman on this weeks podcast.  Both acts can be seen and heard live at Ohana: Luau at the Lake this June in Lake George, NY.  Great stuff!

We also have a real nice interview with Amy Boylan from the Tonga Hut in North Hollywood.  A little history on the longest lived tiki watering hole in Los Angeles.  You need to visit the Tonga Hut if you haven’t already.  In the interview you will find out Sunshine’s dirty little secret.

Take a look at the art of El Gato Gomez.

Sunshine gives you Part 2 of our “How to host a hotel room party.”  Tips on making sure everyone including the hosts enjoy your hotel room shindig.  Or get some tips on attending one of these fun events.

See, you have so many reasons to listen to this weeks podcast.  A lot more than we felt like typing here in the show notes.

Cheers and Mahalo
