ZTL 100 Zen Tiki Lounge, cocktails and memories

Play

Sunshine and Pumpkin could not be happier about recording the 100th podcast. Not only was this a lot of fun, having so many listeners in the lounge but we met some new drinkers/listeners and a blast doing it. To get the party going we started off with the group sucking of a very large Scorpion Bowl, followed by several other favorite cocktails from the Zen Tiki Lounge. We honestly tried to make it through one show without mention of Pumpkins vagina troubles but one of our guests brought it up before we could put a stop to it. We also had a few unexpected bits of shenanigans that caught us off guard. This is just one of those shows you need to listen to and pretend you were part of it. Really!!! For this weeks cocktail just mix up a scorpion to share with friends or try one of the other great ZTL cocktails from our tour down memory lane. ZTL 209 Tiki Goes Topless

Play

You may recall that on last weeks podcast we declared that we would try a “Toptional” show.  Well, we did it.  Sunshine lost his shirt first, followed by Kalani and Pumpkin only gave us a quick flash.  Too bad the show is audio only.  One may ask, how do you get everyone to take their shirts off?  Cocktails of course.  Rather than mix up a specific drink with a recipe, Sunshine combined the proper amounts of rum, juice and extras to lower inhibitions and increase shenanigans.  Mission accomplished.  Our musical selections this week are inspired by the amazing Les Baxter and similar sounds like Kava Kon and Skip Heller.  There are a lot of similarities in original exotica and today’s  artists.  But you have to get out there and find them all.  We recommend facebook as a place you can find fan pages and fans of great new and classic exotica.  Pumpkin is back in the lounge again sharing some tiki news, mostly events in Hawaii.  Sunshine reminds everyone that Tiki Oasis and Tiki-Caliente are on the way and you want to book rooms for the later NOW!  With three of us in the lounge there is plenty more banter for anyone with just about any taste to find something interesting.  Enjoy the show!

ZTL 208 Palm Springs Punch And Tiki Caliente III

Play

Before you listen to the podcast this week you better gather up your booze and make some Palm Springs Punch.  Our cocktail this week is great for one or a hundred.  Palm Springs mixologist Rory “Wildsville” man Snyder wanted to share his punch recipe with us, and this is just one more reason to look forward to Tiki Caliente III this May 20-22. Over two dozen faithful listeners pledged to mix up some punch while listening, we are literally drinking this cocktail all over the world.  And speaking of Tiki Caliente, Sunshine brings us the tiki news segment.  Get the dates and info for just about every big event this Summer.  Next we try filtering cheap rum to see if we can stretch our dollar in this tough economy.  Did we?  Listen to find out.  We also continue to support efforts to raise money for relief in Japan after the earthquakes and tsunami. Don’t let this tragedy become old news until people get the help they need.  And theres a lot more show squeezed in between.

Palm Springs Punch by Rory Snyder

1 1/2 oz of Coruba Spiced Rum
1/2 oz Trip Sec
1/2 oz Creme De Noyaux
…1 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz Sweet n Sour
stir with ice, top with cherry and orange slice..

ZTL 207 Tropical Easter Baskets And Balderdash

Sometimes the work week seems extra long and arduous.  Your hosts here in the Zen Tiki Lounge just want to help all of us relax a little after all the BS of life.  Sunshine Pumpkin and Starshine are drinking and dishing the weeks hurdles.  We toast the week by drinkings “Cobra’s Fang.”  In hone of the Egyptian cobra that escaped from the zoo in the Bronx.  To everyones surprise, the cocktail melds very strong flavors into a tasty rum vacation of sensual inebriation.  In our listener mail segment we give out the recipe for Palm Springs Punch, sent in by Rory “Wildsville” Snyder, who organizes Tiki Calienete.  Check the link for tickent and reservation info to the awesome event in Palm Springs and see the ZTL crew at our room party.  Get the drink ingredients ready for next week so you can join us for a podcasting first.  A drinkalong podcast with our listeners all over the world.  After drink number two, Pumpkin and Starshine discuss trading sexual favors for household improvements.   The American way.  Sunshine brought in some examples of tropical candies that work great in your tiki Easter basket.  And remember to be green, use only baskets or holders that are reusable and server a purpose.  Try putting all your candy and toys in a flower pot for example.  Something useful, not a disposable colored plastic piece of crap.  Our Last Call song of the week is “Jealous Heart” by Bryan Smith and the New Hawaiians. Enjoy and Mahalo!
