Every once in a while we record two shows in one day. Naturally the extra cocktails consumed in a short period of time seem to make your loyal co hosts all the more opinionated. Lucky you. Highlights include a dramatic reading from the new book by Everett Peacock, “In The Middle of the Third Planet’s Most Wonderful of Oceans.” This book makes a great gift for that special tiki loving someone in your life. Next, Sunshine coins new words Sarah Palin style and lets the crew of ZTL try his very special holiday spiced rum. Delicious. We discover the fate of the coral reefs in the Gulf Region and the continued story of BP denying they have anything to do with the reef extinction. Starshine grosses us out with the tale of her baby delivery and the ensuing stitches that patched her lady parts back together. Kalani reports from her outing to see the latest Harry Potter flick. Christmas Spiced Rum you can make yourself:

750 ml bottle gold rum

1 fresh cinnamon stick cracked in half

2 fresh cloves

1 vanilla bean sliced down the middle

Put everything in the bottle. Turn bottle over a few times each day but don’t shake. Leave a cool place for 14 days. Every other day or so, take a whiff and a sample a bit. If you feel any of the spices are getting to strong (like the clove), strain them out and put the rum back in the bottle. Use for rum cake, the holiday shooter, coffee grog, hot buttered rum etc. It’s like rum and Christmas

Aloooooha and welcome to the Zen Tiki Lounge. This dimly lit tiki bar lives in your head or between your ears as we like to say. This week the podcast is about giving our listeners what they want. You asked for another low cal cocktail, you got it. The mango cooler cocktail found in Beachbum Berry’s book Remixed has been adjusted to cut the calories/sugar by 40%. Listeners also asked for some holiday shopping ideas for their tiki friends and tiki lovers. Sunshine put together a list of common and less common items sure to fit any need. Books, music, trinkets, carvings, mugs and such. Check the links below. Our conversation this week includes a wonderful rant about the recent troubles with the TSA at US airports. Some people are reported the experience is close to a date rape but without the frat drinks. Starshine and Kalani view some classic exotica album artwork that includes nude women, once the staple of a good album cover, now far and few between. Save the nude exotica album cover! Speaking of saving, we quickly remind listeners that the Tonga Room in San Francisco is still slated for closing and demolition. After Halloween shenanigans, long work weeks and the winter holidays coming fast, we drink and rant. It’s been a while since politics was a big topic here in the lounge. Kalani is always studied up and ready to share her view on the Tea Partiers and other current trends. Sunshine is just happy the elections are over and we don’t have to see the attack ads for another two years. Starshine just wants everyone to get alone. Three somewhat different opinions that are mixed together with ample drink. Our cocktail this week is dubbed Rum Ox. Why? A dry white rum mixed with blueberry and pomegranate juices, a dash of lemon and some berry schnapps to kick it up a bit. Good for you and tastes great too. In addition to politics we share the results of the recently published Indiana State University sex survey, and the even more recently unpublished Tiki Sex Survey. Americans have changed their sexual behavior only slightly in the last two decades, but they are more willing to share their habits with strangers. Nice! Survey aside, did you know that the bush cricket has the largest testicles (body mass to testicle ratio) in nature? Wow! Go crickets!
