ZTL 186 Celebrating All Things Banana

Play

We’re going bananas in the lounge this week.  Sunshine and Pumpkin sit behind the bar, mix up a banana inspired cocktails followed by baked banana and plenty of innuendo to go along. It is International Banana Day afterall.  Our cocktail is sort of a tiki classic, Planet of the Apes, from Beachbum Berry’s huge collection he has gathered from around the country.  Get a copy of the Bums book REMIXED for a compilation of all his great mixology research.  To keep the mood we try baked bananas with several toppings including brown sugar, coconut and cinnamon.  Listen to the show for this simple and delicious recipe.  Full of banana liquor and banana fruit, Sunshine shares the history of the phallic fruit and surprises Pumpkin with the correct way to open the elongated yellow sweet.  We announce the winner of our latest CD giveaway, Dan takes home  a copy of the Martini Kings “Lost in Paradise” album and a new CD is up for grabs.  Stay tuned and maybe you can get a copy of the Exotics “Lost Album.”  So perhaps you get the mood we are in.  We didn’t forget all the naughty aspects of the wonderful fruit (actually an herb), so listen and enjoy the shenanigans.  Mix a drink at home, find a nice dark corner to relax in and let us do the rest.

ZTL 185 Never Mix IKEA With Cocktails

It has certainly been a long time since Sunshine or Pumpkin spent almost an entire podcast ranting about the stupid people they keep running into.  To make up for lost time, Sunshine tells two lovely stories of loss, confrontation, irritation and rebirth.  We highly recommend you cover the ears of your children before listening to this weeks show.  A nice cocktail and an appetizer wouldn’t be a bad idea either.  Try the Coral Beauty for starters.  Follow with a few shots of your favorite rum.  And let us do the talking.  This episode really has no point at all, other than a good rant fueled by the demon rum.  Enjoy!

ZTL 184 Rum and Fun Take Over the Lounge

Our show this week is a testimonial to functioning inebriation.   Sunshine and Kalani both sip a little hard on the rum and juice before writing down their talking points for this weeks episode.   No matter.  Somehow we actually ended up making the longest podcast in our almost 6 year history.  Our cocktail is was cleverly named after Kalani, the Kalani Cooler.  Rum, coconut, pineapple, lime and such combine to create a simple but intoxicating little number that Kalani will not soon forget.  Our music this week is a bit Skip Heller and some Les Baxter thrown in for good measure.  Kalani and I dive into some deep political conversation including Bush era tax credits, Obamas energy policy and the positive effect the economy has had on the US birth rate…..going down!  And, as we mentioned last episode, our faithful listener from Germany, Stefan sends us some audio of the first Rum and Fun event in Hamburg.  From the sound of things this event was a smash and Stefan and company had PLENTY to drink.  Good times!

After six weeks of pretending she has a life, Pumpkin is back in the lounge and wasting no time getting back to basics.  We start with the usual cocktail, a Bermuda Rum Swizzle suggested by Brad Beach of Beachoutpost.com.  Exotica in the background, dim lighting and we’re off to the races.  Pumpkin may have missed Tiki Oasis but she certainly didn’t forget to bring her calendar.  The calendar of useless holidays that is.  Sunshine is very excited for Sept 21st, International banana day!!!  Maybe not so excited for National Wear a Hat Day.  The smart move is to continue listening to show so you can find out how we celebrate banana day.  Sunshine vows to whip up cocktails and appetizers worthy of such a wonderous event.  Scattered amongst our various segments this week is the outstanding music of Martini Kings.  We play four of their songs from the newest album Lost in Paradise.  Big Mahalo to Tony for sending the album, it’s been on repeat for some time now.  Pumpkin reveals that she is being stalked by prison inmates which leads to her finally getting around to Googling herself.  Yes, thats right.  Pumpkin Googles herself  for the first time.  Besides welcoming Pumpkin back to the lounge, cocktails, music and shenanigans, there are plenty of other surprises including listener mail, party planning tips and much much more.
